by Lisa Capobianco Staff Writer A public hearing is underway for a bond ordinance appropriating $935,000 to buy 427 Pleasant Street—the horse farm property next door to DePaolo Middle School. During a recent meeting, the Town Council voted unanimously to approve a public hearing on the bond ordinance, which will take place later this month. Council members also voted for a referral to the Planning and Zoning Commission on the bond ordinance, and a referral for the contract to buy the property. “We’ve been working on that for a couple of years,” said Town Manager Garry Brumback during the meeting. “I’m thrilled to bring forward that opportunity for us as a town and our residents.” Town Councilor Chris Palmieri said the property will serve as a great benefit for the town and the schools. Although no specific details on possible uses of the property have been released yet, Palmieri said he could see the open space purchase being used as an asset for a potential program in the middle school or even the high school. “It’s a great asset for the town,” said Palmieri, adding that he would like to see the land itself being preserved.
